The Department of Chemistry provides undergraduate programs for earning either a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry through the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Given chemistry's foundational role across numerous disciplines, the curriculum allows significant flexibility in elective choices, enabling students to tailor their studies to personal interests or career goals. These customized programs can focus on pre-medical tracks, health professions, technical communication, business management, or computer-related fields. Additional guidance on personalized academic planning can be obtained from the department chair. Students pursuing a B.S. in chemistry can select between two pathways: the standard B.S. degree or the ACS-certified B.S. degree.
The Non-certified B.S. Degree option is particularly well-suited for pre-med, pre-veterinary, pharmacy students, or those pursuing dual majors. This track offers adaptable course selections, allowing students to prepare for medical school, veterinary programs, healthcare careers, environmental science roles, or pharmaceutical industry positions. The program also accommodates supplementary coursework in business, law, computer science, materials science, or other fields to enhance the chemistry education.
