The Chemistry Department provides undergraduate programs culminating in either a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree through the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Given chemistry's foundational role across numerous disciplines, the curriculum allows significant flexibility in elective choices, enabling students to tailor their studies to personal interests or career goals. These customized paths may include preparation for medical school, healthcare professions, technical writing, business management, or computer-related fields. Additional guidance on personalized academic planning can be obtained from the department chair. Students pursuing a B.S. in Chemistry can select between two tracks: the standard B.S. degree or the ACS-certified B.S. degree.
The Non-certified B.S. Degree option is particularly well-suited for pre-med, pre-veterinary, pharmacy, or dual-degree students. This track offers curricular adaptability, permitting students to select electives that align with medical school requirements, veterinary programs, healthcare careers, environmental science positions, or pharmaceutical industry roles. Additionally, students may incorporate business, legal studies, computer science, materials science, or other complementary coursework into their chemistry education.
