The University of Maine's psychology program cultivates a scientific approach to understanding human behavior by examining diverse influences - from molecular processes to brain systems, from basic perception to complex cognition, and from biological factors to societal contexts. The curriculum investigates behavioral development across the lifespan and examines the nature of psychological disorders. While encompassing psychology's vast scope, UMaine's program emphasizes building strong scientific analysis capabilities (including research methods, statistics, and logical reasoning), creating an excellent platform for interdisciplinary critical thinking. To enhance these analytical and communication abilities, the program concludes with a capstone project where students synthesize and apply their accumulated knowledge to a chosen area of focus.
