This program focuses on music education within a comprehensive liberal arts framework. It provides extensive exposure to various aspects of music, particularly emphasizing music history and theory. The curriculum prepares students pursuing graduate studies for careers not centered on performance. Note that this degree does not meet requirements for public school music teacher certification.
Upon earning the B.A. in Music, graduates will achieve the following outcomes:
Show competency in applying music theory and aural skills/sight singing.
Attain piano proficiency.
Pass a 15-minute performance evaluation on their primary instrument after four semesters of applied study.
Develop strong written communication skills regarding music history topics.
Finalize their studies with a capstone project, choosing between a research paper, original composition, or lecture recital.
