The School of Computing and Information Science provides students with the option to pursue either a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) or Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in computer science. The curriculum covers fundamental computer science concepts, including programming language structures, operating systems, software development methodologies, algorithmic principles, computer hardware design, and computational theory. Through elective courses, students can explore specialized subjects like artificial intelligence, database systems, advanced computing techniques, networking, and information security. The program also facilitates hands-on learning through internships, independent research projects, and laboratory work, culminating in a capstone project where students apply their comprehensive knowledge to real-world solutions.
Graduates with a computer science degree enjoy excellent career prospects, with access to lucrative positions in the tech sector that are less vulnerable to offshoring. Their expertise is valuable across diverse sectors such as corporate environments, academic institutions, research facilities, and government organizations. Both the B.S. and B.A. programs combine in-depth computer science training with a broad liberal arts foundation. Alumni from the School of Computing and Information Science are equally prepared to pursue advanced degrees in computer-related disciplines or, with supplementary coursework, transition into professional graduate programs.
