Understanding and valuing chemistry fundamentals is crucial in our technology-driven world. People, our planet, and the entire cosmos are fundamentally chemical systems - disregarding this fact means missing a critical viewpoint on human existence and our relationship with the environment. Drawing conclusions about life's essence without this chemical perspective would be as incomplete as neglecting insights from philosophy, biology, religion, history, political science, sociology, psychology, arts, and other liberal arts disciplines. The Chemistry Department offers foundational knowledge for non-majors and deeper instruction for majors, empowering them to better understand humanity's place in the natural world. Our teaching method covers structural principles, scientific laws, real-world applications, and their interconnections. Naturally, fulfilling the third goal of our mission statement demands most of our focus and resources. We prioritize delivering rigorous chemical education to prepare students for professional success. Chemistry graduates have an excellent track record, with most securing jobs in industry or education, or pursuing advanced degrees in chemistry, medical, dental, or pharmaceutical fields.
