The University of La Verne's Creative Writing program pushes every student—whether pursuing a major, minor, or simply exploring—to refine their skills, analyze surrounding culture, and broaden readers' perspectives on human experience. Our degree programs allow students to hone their literary craft through focused study of writing techniques and theories, with special attention to modern applications. Classes teach students to apply creative writing methods while deepening their awareness of literary and cultural influences. Graduates with a BA in Creative Writing will be equipped for advanced studies, especially MFA programs, while gaining hands-on publishing experience—a key program component.
The Creative Writing curriculum supports students in perfecting their writing abilities, exploring the cultural and literary foundations of their work, and enhancing readers' comprehension of life's complexities. Through coursework and extracurricular activities, students examine current writing approaches, acquire publishing industry skills, and produce their own distinctive literary pieces.
