The Chemistry Department provides Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degree programs. Students pursuing an M.S. degree can choose between Plan A or Plan B to fulfill requirements. Specialization options include analytical, biological, inorganic, organic, physical, and radionuclear chemistry. Ph.D. candidates must complete one semester as a teaching assistant.

A 1 to 2 page statement outlining your research interests and how you hope to pursue those interests at the University of Kentucky. Please indicate specific research groups that interest you the most. Include any details of previous experience in a research environment.
Three to four letters of recommendation
Three letters of recommendation from faculty members or job supervisors familiar with your teaching, learning and research abilities. The program prefers upload of letter.


The GRE is not required for admission to this program.

It is not necessary to submit a writing sample, assistantship application, or portfolio. Also, the majority of applicants may disregard the section that allows you to provide Supplemental Information (University Scholars form, etc.). For the Graduate School, the minimum acceptable TOEFL score is 550 (paper-based) 213 (computer-based), or 79 (internet-based). The minimum IELTS score is 6.5

An overall grade point average of 2.75 on undergraduate work and 3.00 on all graduate work is required by the Graduate School.
