The Biology department provides a research-intensive Master's program, referred to as the thesis MS or Plan A MS. This option is ideal for students seeking hands-on research experience without committing to the more extensive demands of a Ph.D. program. While the department admits a limited number of thesis M.S. candidates, exceptions may be made under specific conditions. A crucial prerequisite is having a faculty sponsor with a suitable research project that aligns with a Master's degree timeline.

The GRE is not required for admission to this program. For the Graduate School, the minimum acceptable TOEFL score is 550 (paper-based) 213 (computer-based), or 79 (internet-based). The minimum IELTS score is 6.5
An overall grade point average of 2.75 on undergraduate work and 3.00 on all graduate work is required by the Graduate School.
