The History Department initiated its graduate program approximately 100 years back. Typically maintaining a modest scale, the department admits a selective group of eight to twelve candidates annually. PhD candidates in History embark on diverse career paths, ranging from academic roles in higher education to research positions in libraries, archives, historical organizations, and various public and private entities. The program focuses on cultivating students into skilled researchers, educators, and active community members, with graduate research and seminar courses forming the foundation. Success in these core courses is essential for progressing to qualification examinations and doctoral thesis work.
