The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences provides graduate programs for both M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Geology. Applicants with backgrounds in geology, other natural sciences, or engineering are encouraged to apply. Research initiatives in the department receive funding through grants and contracts from organizations like NSF, DOE, NASA, PRF, as well as various federal, state, and industrial partners. Graduate research opportunities span diverse fields such as natural hazards (including earthquakes, landslides, and floods), environmental geology, hydrogeology, climate studies, tectonic processes, sedimentary geology, geophysics, engineering geology, planetary science, stable isotope geochemistry, paleontology, critical mineral resources, surface processes, geochronology, cave and karst studies, among others.
