The University of Kentucky's Department of Russian & Eastern Studies has included Arabic and Islamic Studies since the 1980s, later transitioning to the Department of Modern and Classical Languages, Literatures and Cultures for more than a decade. Rising global interest in Islamic developments since the 1990s, coupled with growing student numbers and Muslim community backing, led to expanded course options. Local Muslim donors established two Islamic book collections at UK Libraries. Gain foundational knowledge of Arab and Islamic traditions.
