Law and society is a multidisciplinary area exploring the practical application of legal principles across various sectors including government agencies, judicial systems, non-profit organizations, policymaking, law enforcement, and justice administration. Pursuing this degree offers comprehensive insights into the real-world functioning of legal systems. The curriculum covers legal evolution, policy frameworks, the influence of law on organizational management, its impact on governance and judicial structures, and its effects on individuals across all societal levels. Degree candidates have the opportunity to gain practical experience through credit-bearing internships. Previous internship opportunities have included positions at the Johnson County District Attorney's Office, Shawnee Municipal Government, Planned Parenthood, and legal practices in the Kansas City region.
Admission will be granted to students who meet the following standard:
A minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale for all previous coursework, including transfer coursework.
English Proficiency:
TOEFL iBT or TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition: 79 (18 minimum subscore)
TOEFL paper-delivered test: 60 (18 minimum subscore)
IELTS: 6.5 (6.0 minimum subscore)
