The University of Iowa's pharmacy graduate program focuses primarily on PhD candidates, prioritizing applicants pursuing doctoral studies. Master's degree admission (MS in pharmacy) occurs only in exceptional cases, such as when required by international government funding, Fulbright or similar scholarships mandating a master's, or industry professionals seeking specialized skills to advance their careers. Note that a master's degree isn't a prerequisite for PhD program applications.
Upon completion, graduates will showcase deep subject mastery and critical analysis skills regarding their field's current knowledge. They'll master core concepts and modern research methodologies within their specialization, demonstrate capacity for faculty-guided research, collaborate effectively within research teams, and present findings proficiently through both written and oral presentations

Applicants must meet the admission requirements of the Graduate College. They must:
hold a bachelor's degree from a U.S. institution or an equivalent degree from another country as determined by the University of Iowa Office of Admissions,
have a g.p.a. of at least 3.00,
submit a Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test score, and
if an international applicant, receive a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) minimum score of 81, an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) minimum overall score of 7.0 with no individual score below 6.0, or a Duolingo English Test (DET) minimum score of 105, however, if an applicant has a master's degree from a U.S. institution, this requirement is waived.
