The Master of Arts in Communication Studies demands completion of at least 36 graduate-level semester credits, with a minimum of 30 credits obtained through the University of Iowa. Develop skills to analyze and participate in communication research through qualitative, quantitative, and critical-cultural approaches. Apply communication theories across diverse contexts including social, cultural, interpersonal, and other communicative environments. Gain expertise in specialized areas of communication studies and connected academic fields. At the graduate level, our department emphasizes communication as a fundamental social process. Faculty and students collaborate on research and instruction highlighting communication's pivotal role in shaping, sustaining, and evolving societal structures. The curriculum incorporates both humanistic traditions and social science methodologies.
