The Epidemiology Ph.D. program is designed to align with the department's educational approach. Students receive extensive training from the Biostatistics Department and other College of Public Health departments, gaining expertise in quantitative methods, epidemiological study design, demographic approaches, and large dataset management. The curriculum includes mandatory courses in medical physiology and pathology to establish foundational knowledge of disease mechanisms. Students collaborate with advisors to choose specialized courses that support their research focus areas, which may include chronic diseases, infectious diseases, clinical and health services, molecular/genetic epidemiology, or injury epidemiology. Beyond the dissertation, the program requires completion of an independent research project. Students are also encouraged to take relevant courses across the university.
