The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering fosters academic excellence and innovative research by encouraging close faculty-student collaboration and offering customized programs to meet each student's unique requirements.

With guidance from their chosen advisor, students design personalized study plans that adhere to the Graduate College's general framework while allowing flexibility. The department actively collaborates with multiple University of Iowa departments, including Physics and Astronomy, Computer Science (Liberal Arts and Sciences), Biomedical Engineering, Industrial and Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering (College of Engineering), and the Carver College of Medicine. Key research areas encompass medical imaging, signal processing, control systems, wireless communications, materials science, computer architecture, and computational genomics.

Qualification Requirements

Applicants must have a g.p.a. of at least 3.25 on all electrical and computer engineering, mathematics, and physics coursework.

For international records, all records should bear the original stamp or seal of the institution and the signature of a school official. Documents not in English must be accompanied by a complete, literal, English translation, certified by the issuing institution.
International students may also be required to submit TOEFL scores to comply with the university's English Language Proficiency Requirements. The Electrical & Computer Engineering program only accepts TOEFL as its English Language Proficiency test.
