The PhD program mandates at least 72 semester hours encompassing core classes, electives, and dissertation work, with transfer credits considered. This total must include no fewer than 42 graduate-level course hours and a minimum of 12 hours dedicated to dissertation research. All graduate students must complete the core curriculum outlined on the Graduate Curriculum and Policies page. Electives should align with the student's research specialization and are approved by their advisory committee. Doctoral candidates must also successfully complete three key milestones: a qualifying exam, comprehensive exam, and final dissertation defense, all assessed by their committee. Enrollment in the Ph.D. program remains provisional until the qualifying examination is passed.
