Computer science undergraduates aiming for a Master's degree can apply for the accelerated BA/MCS program, which enables them to obtain both degrees within five years. This intensive program requires 140 semester hours, with the BA awarded upon fulfilling all undergraduate requirements.
Participants must meet all criteria for both degrees, though up to 12 semester hours (four courses) can be shared between programs. These dual-counted courses must be completed during the fourth undergraduate year after program admission and must fulfill requirements for both degrees. The computer science major equips students for software development, information management roles, and provides strong foundations for graduate studies across various fields.
Students can declare their computer science major upon university admission or later, choosing between a BA or BS track. If no preference is stated, the BA is automatically assigned, though students may opt to switch to the BS at any point.
The curriculum builds expertise in programming methodologies, problem-solving strategies, mathematical concepts, and computer systems. This training proves invaluable for careers spanning science, engineering, business, and healthcare sectors.
