The music education program is designed for aspiring educators who want to teach music from preschool through 12th grade. This degree integrates liberal arts foundation courses with specialized music and education classes, equipping future teachers with the skills needed for today's learners.
To qualify for a comprehensive teaching license, students must finish a blend of music, education, and general education coursework, typically achievable in four years. This prepares them for Indiana's mandatory certification exams. Program graduates pursuing licensure must pass both the pedagogical evaluation for their intended grade levels and the relevant content assessments, which include: Fine Arts: Instrumental and General Music (P-12) or Fine Arts: Vocal and General Music (P-12).
After earning the Bachelor of Music Education degree and passing the required examinations, graduates qualify for Indiana's REPA (Rules for Education Preparation and Accountability) Initial Practitioner License (a two-year credential with residency requirements). This certification covers either P-12 Music: Instrumental and General Music or P-12 Music: Vocal and General Music instruction.
Students must have official high school graduation documents and transcripts.
