UIndy's program is designed for students eager to engage with matters of faith and the church across history, today, and tomorrow. The curriculum moves far beyond basic religious education, immersing you in church history, theology, philosophy, the concept of sin, and other profound topics. By studying the Bible as both a sacred text and historical artifact, you'll develop deeper appreciation for Christianity's cultural influences. This knowledge provides a strong base for your personal and professional growth.
Earning a religion degree from UIndy offers clarity about broader religious traditions while helping you discern your personal life path. Alumni from our Philosophy & Religion Department have flourished in predictable fields like ministry and teaching, as well as unexpected areas including law, social services, government, and business. The critical thinking and analytical skills developed through philosophy or religious studies open doors to diverse careers and life experiences.
The pre-theology track welcomes students from all disciplines to examine Christian vocations through collaborative learning. Guided by UIndy's Ecumenical and Interfaith Office chaplain, this program features specialized courses that encourage deep reflection on faith traditions while helping students consider their purpose through a spiritual lens.
After completing four vocation-focused courses, you'll enhance your understanding of prayer, worship, service, and stewardship with practical internship experience.
