UIndy's program is designed for students like you who seek to explore matters of faith and the church across time—past, present, and future. Your studies will go far beyond Sunday school lessons as you examine church history, theology, philosophy, the concept of sin, and other profound topics. By studying the Bible as a historical text, you'll develop a deeper appreciation for Christianity's cultural influences. This knowledge provides a strong foundation for your personal and professional growth.
Earning a religion degree from UIndy offers insights into broader religious traditions while helping you discern your life's purpose. Alumni from our Philosophy & Religion Department have built rewarding careers in expected fields like ministry and education, as well as unexpected areas such as law, social services, government, and business. The critical thinking and analytical skills developed through philosophy or religious studies prepare you for diverse career paths and life experiences.
The New Testament was composed in koine Greek. By specializing in Ancient Greek at UIndy, you'll master this classical language over three to four semesters. Starting with the alphabet, fundamental grammar, and vocabulary, you'll progress to reading Paul's epistles and the Gospels in their original form.
As you study these texts, you'll deepen your understanding of early Christian cultural contexts and appreciate the era's literary artistry. You'll also discover how Ancient Greek has shaped English and enhance your own linguistic abilities.
