The Department of Materials Science and Engineering provides graduate programs for both Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Materials Science and Engineering. With approximately 200 students, the diverse student population and faculty come from various scientific and engineering disciplines. Research conducted by faculty spans numerous fields, allowing students to focus on specialized areas such as ceramics, metals, polymers, electronic materials, biomaterials, and composites. The MatSE Department fosters interdisciplinary research, frequently collaborating with other engineering departments. Pursuing graduate studies in Materials Science and Engineering at Illinois equips students with essential knowledge, hands-on skills, and professional training for careers in advanced materials.
