More employers in consulting and industry now view a master's degree as the standard entry-level qualification. The Ph.D. program focuses on advanced coursework and involvement in groundbreaking research at the forefront of the discipline. Our department features one of the nation's premier graduate programs in Civil and Environmental Engineering. Students can pursue the M.S. degree either with or without a thesis. The thesis option requires 32 graduate credit hours (including 8 thesis hours), while the non-thesis path requires 36 credit hours. The non-thesis M.S. can potentially be finished within one year or less. All MSCE and MSEE candidates must work closely with their academic advisors. Every program mandates at least 16 credit hours in the student's primary field of study, along with 12 hours from 500-level courses (with 8 graded hours in the major field). A maximum of four credits from CEE 597 Independent Study can count toward these requirements.
