The Master of Science (M.S.) program requirements align with the Graduate College guidelines outlined in A Handbook for Graduate Students and Advisors. To earn an M.S. in Atmospheric Sciences, students must fulfill both the Graduate College's general requirements and the department's specific criteria listed below, established in November 2015. Students who enrolled earlier may choose between these standards or those in effect when they began. The degree requires 32 credit hours, with at least 16 credits from 500-level core courses. The department provides two M.S. tracks: thesis and non-thesis. Both tracks mandate completion of four foundational courses: Atmospheric Dynamics (ATMS 500), Physical Meteorology (ATMS 504), Weather Systems (ATMS 505), and Climate Dynamics (ATMS 507). Core coursework must be finished within the first four semesters, though students may request an extension under special circumstances. Elective courses can be taken anytime before graduation.
