Students enrolled in the Master of Music program with a Jazz Performance specialization will:
Hone their performance abilities to an advanced professional standard, employing creative and analytical thinking to guide stylistic decisions and artistic interpretation while showcasing improvisational skills and teamwork as needed, and effectively sharing their musical vision with varied audiences.
Display proficiency in analyzing, integrating, and articulating subject matter relevant to their primary field, conveying their insights through appropriate academic formats including written, spoken, notated, or performance-based presentations.
Show competence in utilizing proper techniques for music-related academic research and scholarly composition, along with adeptness in managing both traditional and digital resources.
Engage in focused academic pursuits to cultivate specialized knowledge and the capacity to integrate learning in areas that complement their core studies and/or career aspirations.
Furthermore, select Illinois MM candidates will acquire practical skills and knowledge in teaching methodologies, instructional techniques, and student evaluation across various musical disciplines, developing understanding of both individual and group instruction along with suitable assessment approaches.
