The Master of Laws (LL.M.) program equips students, regardless of previous legal background, to advance their careers through U.S. legal expertise. For generations, the University of Illinois College of Law has maintained distinguished leadership in criminal law and procedure studies. Our criminal law curriculum starts with the mandatory first-year Criminal Law course, examining the evolution of substantive criminal law and contemporary implementation challenges. Specialized upper-level courses cater to aspiring criminal practitioners and those focused on criminal justice policy matters.

Qualification Requirements

Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree, LLB, or equivalent degree. The bachelor's degree need not be in law.The minimum TOEFL score is 80 internet-based. The minimum IELTS score is 6.5. A grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 (A=4.0), or comparable GPA for an international applicant, for last two years of undergraduate study is a minimum requirement for admission.
