As the longest-running doctoral program in communication and media studies globally, the ICR has led the way in cross-disciplinary research approaches and education. Learners craft their academic paths by utilizing resources from both the ICR and other campus departments. This exceptional adaptability enables groundbreaking, innovative research. From its founding, the ICR's PhD initiative has promoted interdisciplinary examination of communications and media. Participants are empowered to create customized, multidisciplinary study plans. While enjoying considerable freedom in developing interdisciplinary curricula, students must complete specific required courses. With candidates coming from varied academic backgrounds, the Proseminar initially familiarizes them with communication research's historical foundations. The following term focuses on contemporary discussions within communications scholarship. As they explore key topics and develop shared terminology, Proseminar participants can more accurately position their research interests within both historical and modern contexts of media and communication studies.
