The DMA generally requires at least three years of study. Students must maintain on-campus enrollment throughout the program's duration. World-class faculty members, recognized globally for their expertise, mentor students through a comprehensive yet adaptable curriculum. This approach enables students to specialize in preferred areas while developing versatile skills essential for jazz careers. Course offerings span keyboard techniques, improvisation, arranging, jazz history, composition, stylistic studies, teaching methods, music industry knowledge, individual lessons, and ensemble participation. Students receive personalized guidance from Grammy-winning faculty who balance teaching with active recording and international performance schedules. The program features eighteen campus jazz groups, plus performance and recording opportunities at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts and nearby venues. Student ensembles have earned national recognition, receiving invitations to prestigious jazz conferences and winning competitions at major festivals across the United States.
