Our program offers majors in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Actuarial Science, and Mathematics & Computer Science, along with a Mathematics Minor. The University of Illinois Actuarial Science Program holds the prestigious Center of Actuarial Excellence designation from the Society of Actuaries (SOA), standing among a select group of U.S. programs with this honor. This interdisciplinary program equips students for professional roles as actuaries and risk analysts through its comprehensive curriculum.Students engage in ongoing research opportunities including the Math 496 Honors Seminar, summer undergraduate research programs, and customized faculty-guided reading courses. Our department boasts a dynamic group of problem-solvers who train annually for the prestigious Putnam Exam, a national undergraduate mathematics competition, and maintain their skills through the University of Illinois Undergraduate Math Contest each spring. All majors (except Mathematics Education concentrators) must complete and submit a Major Plan of Study form to the LAS Student Academic Affairs Office, detailing their concentration and supporting coursework.
