The Bachelor of Music in Open Studies allows eligible students to customize their education by focusing on specialized areas that match their individual background and musical passions, including jazz, piano instruction, electric string instruments, theater performance, arts management, language studies, and more. Functioning as a student-created concentration, the Open Studies program requires approval from an admissions review board. To earn the BM in Open Studies, students must fulfill the standard Bachelor of Music prerequisites, covering both general education and fundamental music coursework. They also complete their personalized Open Studies curriculum and select relevant electives with faculty guidance, totaling a minimum of 130 credit hours. Admission to the BM in Open Studies program depends on successfully passing an audition for applied music study.
