Students pursuing BASA and BFASA degrees with a Sculpture concentration will delve into three-dimensional art principles, form creation, and innovative spatial approaches. Modern sculpture draws from diverse creative processes, fabrication techniques, and employs an evolving toolkit of materials and methods, yielding results that range from classical to avant-garde in size, concept, and execution. This specialization empowers learners to investigate the vast spectrum of artistic possibilities through personal development, teamwork, and shared achievements.
Sculpture coursework exposes students to multiple materials and construction techniques through 3D form studies, conceptual development, and hands-on training in woodworking, mold creation, casting, and metalwork including welding. Upper-level classes foster independent exploration, promoting distinctive material applications and techniques while guiding students toward individualized artistic trajectories through electives in ceramics, textile arts, experimental wearables, time-based media, digital photography, and specialized workshops. Our facilities feature diverse learning environments and workshops supporting broad material experimentation, including comprehensive woodshops, pottery studios, casting spaces, metal fabrication areas, foundry equipment, textile labs, and digital fabrication tools like 3D printing, precision cutting systems, computer-controlled machining, thermoforming, digital media production, and audiovisual editing suites.
