The Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art (with concentrations) provides an in-depth exploration of art, design, and art history within the comprehensive academic environment of the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Unlike the Bachelor of Fine Arts, this program allows students to balance intensive studio art training with opportunities to explore other academic disciplines, ensuring a well-rounded education. Students can specialize in areas such as Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Printmaking, New Media, or general Studio Art, with their chosen concentration appearing on their degree to highlight expertise for graduate studies or career paths requiring specific technical skills. Foundation courses in the BA Studio Art program cover fundamental techniques and creative concepts, spanning traditional mediums like drawing, painting, and sculpture to digital tools, coding, and interactive media. Students engage with both classic and contemporary methods, gaining proficiency in 2D (flat works like paintings), 3D (sculptural and spatial pieces), and 4D (time-based media such as video and performance). Advanced students benefit from a rotating selection of specialized courses taught by faculty with diverse artistic approaches. The curriculum evolves to mirror cultural shifts, equipping graduates with adaptable skills. BA Studio Art students receive private workspaces within a shared studio facility, fostering a collaborative environment where they refine their practice, exhibit work, and participate in critiques and performances alongside peers.
