The University of Illinois offers an undergraduate Creative Writing program, previously called the Rhetoric major, which ranks among the nation's longest-standing programs of its type. With over sixty years of history, this major blends intimate writing workshops (covering poetry, fiction, and nonfiction) with diverse literature classes. This creates an adaptable yet rigorous curriculum that hones students' creative and analytical abilities, equipping them for diverse career paths or advanced academic pursuits.
Our program empowers writers to refine their unique literary perspectives, cultivate individual writing approaches, and enhance their composition, analysis, and editing capabilities. Participants explore personally meaningful subjects while gaining insights into modern literary publishing, fostering inventive, compelling, and vibrant written expression.
