The Master of Education (MEd) in Science Education provides advanced training for science educators working in diverse settings, including schools, communities, and various professional environments. Students can choose between two pathways: Strand A leads to an Illinois Professional Educators License (PEL) with secondary or middle school science certification, while Strand B focuses on informal science education settings or advanced research opportunities for seasoned educators. This graduate program reflects the UIC College of Education's commitment to educational equity, preparing science teachers to promote social justice through transformative pedagogy. Our program cultivates educators who champion inclusive science learning that empowers all students. Students pursuing the licensure track (Strand A) can finish the MEd in Science Education in just 12 months with a Summer start date. Both program options also allow for a two-year completion timeline, with evening classes available for most coursework.
