The Master of Arts in Political Science equips students for doctoral studies, teaching positions at community colleges or high schools, research roles, and careers in public service, government, or non-profit sectors. This program offers comprehensive training in political science theory and research methods. MA candidates must showcase their proficiency by completing a substantial research paper among other requirements.
Typically, full-time students finish the program within two years, with a maximum completion time of five years from enrollment. Students may take up to two courses (8 semester hours) outside the department.
All mandatory courses must be completed within the program, with no exceptions for graduate credits earned at other institutions.
Students must maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA (on a 4.00 scale) throughout their studies. Further progress standards are outlined in the graduate handbook provided upon program enrollment.
Applicants are considered on a competitive basis. In addition to the Graduate College minimum requirements, applicants must meet the following program requirements: Baccalaureate Field No restrictions. Grade Point Average At least 3.00/4.00 for the final 60 semester (90 quarter) hours of undergraduate study.
Minimum English Competency Test Score: TOEFL 80, with sub scores of Reading 19, Listening 17, Speaking 20, and Writing 21 (iBT Test); 60, with sub scores of Reading 19, Listening 17, Writing 21 (revised Paper-Delivered Test), OR, IELTS 6.5, with sub scores of 6.0 for all four sub scores, OR, PTE-Academic 54, with sub scores of Reading 51, Listening 47, Speaking 53, and Writing 56.
