Data science - the skill to structure, analyze, and extract meaningful patterns from vast quantities of data - requires diverse competencies. Data scientists possess strong computational training. They're equally proficient in statistical methods. They grasp how their analyses impact various sectors, from private enterprises to public institutions. Moreover, they can translate their complex technical work into clear explanations for diverse audiences, demonstrating exceptional communication abilities.
To ensure every UIC data science graduate masters these multifaceted demands, we've integrated resources from three key UIC colleges: Engineering (containing computer science), Liberal Arts and Sciences (encompassing mathematics, statistics, and communication studies), and Business Administration. Additionally, the Colleges of Applied Health Sciences and Urban Planning and Public Affairs contribute specialized coursework for our focused data science tracks.
Students can choose from nine specialized tracks, each drawing courses from five UIC colleges: Engineering, Liberal Arts and Sciences, Business, Applied Health Sciences, and Urban Planning. Some tracks concentrate courses within a single college, while others combine interdisciplinary offerings from multiple sources.
