Our Spanish Major and Minor programs provide students with diverse course options, including Hispanic Linguistics, Hispanic Literary and Cultural Studies, and Translation. The Teaching of Spanish Major is a core component of our offerings. Additionally, we provide a Spanish for the Professions minor that enhances language proficiency for business, healthcare, legal environments, and translation, along with a Certificate of Academic Spanish tailored for heritage speakers.
The major program enhances students' language abilities—speaking, reading, and writing—to achieve advanced linguistic and cultural proficiency. Our curriculum introduces students to cutting-edge critical, analytical, and theoretical methods in Hispanic studies, preparing them for advanced academic pursuits.
A Spanish major gives students pursuing careers in business, law, criminal justice, healthcare, social services, and other fields a competitive advantage by strengthening language skills, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities. We also collaborate closely with the Latin American and Latino Studies Program for those interested in interdisciplinary studies and exploring Hispanic communities in the U.S.
We urge you to view Spanish studies as a vital asset for your professional growth and welcome you to explore becoming a Spanish major, double major, minor, or earning the Certificate of Academic Spanish.
First-year applicants are currently enrolled in high school or have not attended college since graduation.
