To obtain a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts and Sciences degree from UIC, students must fulfill university, college, and departmental requirements. The English Major mandates at least 27 semester hours.
English Literature: 3 foundational courses covering various authors or periods (9 hours)
Creative Writing: 3 classes in Fiction, Poetry, or Nonfiction (9 hours)
Media and Cultural Studies: any 3 approved courses (9 hours)
Professional Writing and Publishing: 1 core course, 2 electives, plus an internship or portfolio class (12 hours)
