Wildfires significantly transform rangeland ecosystems. By completing advisor-approved elective courses, students can demonstrate expertise in wildland fire management while meeting the criteria for a Fire Ecology and Management minor. This program teaches techniques for conserving, restoring, and managing rangelands. With a strong ecological foundation, the curriculum offers comprehensive knowledge about ecological restoration and how soil conditions, grazing patterns, fire, and climate shifts impact vegetation. Additional studies cover livestock operations, wildlife conservation, social influences, recreational land use, agricultural practices, and broader natural resource management principles.
