The field of physics has given rise to countless groundbreaking innovations, including computers, the internet, laser systems, and X-ray imaging. Yet the fundamental principles governing our physical reality remain partially unexplored.
This curriculum explores the properties and interactions of matter and energy, emphasizing classical mechanics, electromagnetism, contemporary physics, quantum theory, and thermodynamics. Students develop skills to tackle challenging scientific problems across diverse fields like healthcare, engineering, and sustainable energy.
Physics students acquire practical expertise by creating and performing experiments with cutting-edge research methods and digital tools. Unique investigative opportunities are available through the NSF-funded Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) initiative within the department.
