The Lionel Hampton School of Music, nationally accredited, offers this major for aspiring professional performers, composers, and educators. This comprehensive liberal arts program also equips students for diverse careers in fields like business, law, and medicine. Music majors develop their skills through performance, composition, analysis, and active listening. Through rigorous training, you'll hone your musical abilities while gaining a solid grounding in humanities and social sciences, with coursework covering theory, history, and performance. Admission requires an audition.
This degree challenges students to achieve excellence in musical performance across various instruments including keyboard, brass, percussion, woodwinds, strings (including classical guitar), or voice. Prospective students must audition with their primary instrument or voice. The program requires two recitals: a 30-minute performance during junior year and a 60-minute senior recital. Most alumni pursue graduate studies, either at the University of Idaho or other institutions.
