The program offers two Master of Science options: a thesis track and a non-thesis track. Admission is selective and mandates an undergraduate degree in science.

For the thesis-based Master of Science, students must conduct novel research under the guidance of a core faculty member from the Geosensing Systems Engineering and Sciences program, who will chair the thesis defense committee. Typically, the committee chair secures funding for both the student and their research. Completing a thesis master's usually demands at least two years of full-time study to finish coursework, develop and execute research, and prepare and defend the thesis.
