The Civil Engineering Department provides advanced studies in various specializations including environmental engineering, geosensing systems, geotechnical engineering, materials science, hydraulic/water resources, and structural engineering. Our facilities feature cutting-edge research labs with modern equipment. The structural lab boasts a 2,500 sq ft strong floor area housing a 2.5-million-pound MTS testing system, along with a large panel tester featuring forty 100-ton jacks, a biaxial fatigue tester, and an environmental testing chamber for large-scale experiments. Our materials testing lab contains a 2-foot-deep strong floor and a 400-kip Tinius-Olsen universal testing machine. Geotechnical research is supported by triaxial testing equipment, advanced pile test chambers, and fully outfitted grouting and soil mechanics labs. The hydraulic facility includes a fluid and wave mechanics lab with a 50-foot tilting flume, plus modern ADV and LSPIV technology. Environmental research is conducted in a 2,000 sq ft analytical facility with sophisticated instruments for analyzing contaminants in soil, water, and air, as well as microbial and molecular studies. The geosensing lab features optical equipment and specialized airborne/terrestrial remote sensing devices.
