The Hobby School of Public Affairs is built on cross-disciplinary knowledge and strong community presence. It provides a Master of Public Policy (MPP) program along with multiple dual-degree and accelerated pathway options through collaborations with other university departments. Research at the Hobby School is centered in the Center for Public Policy, featuring specialized programs like the Survey Research Institute, Concept Visualization Lab, Empirical Implications of Theoretical Models Summer Institute, and Ethics Center. Community involvement and public service remain core to the school's mission, demonstrated through initiatives such as Hobby Fellows, Leland Fellows, the Civic Houston Internship Program, the nationally recognized Certified Public Manager program, Civic Engagement Boot Camp, and numerous public forums.
The Bachelor of Science in Public Policy features a diverse, interdisciplinary curriculum that leverages the University of Houston's research strengths and the Hobby School's expertise. This program equips students with essential skills for analyzing and influencing public policy through empirical research, ethical evaluation, cost-benefit assessment, leadership studies, strategic problem-solving, and economic prediction techniques.
