The Mathematics Department at the University of Houston provides an outstanding setting for exploring mathematics and its practical uses. With roughly 10,000 students enrolled in math courses every semester, we're the university's biggest department by student numbers. Our program includes about 300 undergraduate majors and 80 graduate students, supported by a diverse faculty who are both dedicated researchers and passionate educators. Students in our programs benefit from learning with professors who are leading experts actively pushing the boundaries of mathematical knowledge. A vibrant academic environment is fostered through regular seminars, guest lectures, and various student activities. Mathematics majors can explore specialized research areas and choose from unique degree paths in mathematical biology, financial mathematics, or teaching certification, while also receiving strong preparation for advanced studies.
Faculty research and instruction cover diverse fields including applied mathematics, differential geometry, operator theory, differential equations, dynamical systems, artificial intelligence, computational methods, complex analysis, mathematical biology, fluid dynamics, and other cutting-edge areas.
