After finishing this program, known as the Didactic Program in Dietetics, graduates can apply for supervised practice programs that qualify them to take the dietitian registration exam. This undergraduate degree focuses on building the foundational knowledge and practical skills needed for entry-level dietetics careers.

Supervised practice opportunities, including dietetic internships, are offered nationwide in the United States. Participating in one of these programs is mandatory before taking the Registration Examination for Dietitians. To achieve Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD/N) status, students must:

Complete a Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition and Foods with an accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics. Upon graduation, students receive a verification statement enabling them to apply for supervised practice programs.

Finish an ACEND-accredited supervised practice program (dietetic internship) successfully.

Pass the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) certification exam for Registered Dietitian Nutritionists.
