The History of Science, Medicine, and Technology (HSMT) professional studies pathway is designed for you. HSMT employs a humanistic perspective to explore the evolution of science, medicine, and technology and their global societal effects. Students in HSMT develop insights into the influences that have molded our contemporary world and how different cultures have interpreted their surroundings. They can also relate their academic work to pressing concerns such as pandemics, climate shifts, racial inequalities, and technological advancements.
In HSMT courses, students will examine:
the social and economic determinants affecting health and disease across global communities
diverse viewpoints on clinical interactions and patient involvement in healthcare
the social and ideological frameworks of medical treatment, ethics, and technology
the principles, methods, and establishments of science, medicine, and technology, and how they interact with and are influenced by our social environments and conditions
