The Marine and Environmental Geology Program (MEG) explores the dynamic interplay between physical, biological, and chemical processes in Earth's surface environments. This program offers both educational and research experiences covering diverse aspects of marine and tropical ecosystems. Hawaii's distinctive geographical setting and multicultural community make it an ideal living laboratory for examining human-nature interactions. Key research focuses encompass carbonate systems, coastal dynamics, aquifer studies, climate history, marine chemical processes, and sedimentary rock analysis. While Hawaiian locations serve as primary study sites, our investigations extend across Pacific islands, Asian regions, and both contemporary and fossilized sedimentary systems globally. The MEG initiative is organized around three principal research domains, outlined in the following sections.
