This certificate aims to deepen comprehension of Islam as a global faith by examining primary and secondary sources critically. It seeks to cultivate awareness of the rich diversity within Islamic communities and their varied cultural manifestations, while investigating Islam's and Muslims' influence throughout history and in contemporary global contexts.
Administered by CALL (College of Arts, Languages & Letters), the program requires UHM undergraduates to have sophomore status or above with a 2.5 minimum GPA and successful completion (grade B or higher) of one introductory (DH) course. UHM graduate students are eligible to apply. Non-UHM applicants must hold an AA or BA degree (or equivalent) with humanities coursework or relevant professional background. Those not pursuing a degree may enroll through Outreach College.
